Abeticolic 5mg (30 Tablet / Pack)
A targeted oral FXR agonist indicated for managing chronic Primary Biliary Cholangitis.
Abeticolic 5mg (30 Tablet / Pack) contains Obeticholic Acid, a highly specialized, potent farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist indicated for the treatment of Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC). Operating inside the liver and intestines, it downregulates the de novo synthesis of bile acids from cholesterol, promoting choleresis to prevent toxic bile accumulation and subsequent hepatic fibrosis.
Purpose
Activates hepatic FXR receptors to suppress toxic bile acid manufacturing and protect liver tissues.
Ingredients
Obeticholic Acid 5mg
Warnings
Periodic monitoring of baseline and ongoing liver function tests (LFTs) is mandatory due to severe liver injury risks. Patients must immediately report warning signs like a swollen abdomen, yellowing eyes, dark urine, or extreme fatigue. If concurrently taking bile acid-binding resins (e.g., cholestyramine), take this drug at least 4 hours apart. Completely contraindicated in PBC patients who have progressed to decompensated liver cirrhosis.
Side Effects
Severe, dose-dependent generalized pruritus (intense body itching) requiring clinical management. Fatigue, generalized physical tiredness, or localized abdominal pain. Low-grade nausea, oropharyngeal discomfort, or transient loose stools. Minor reductions in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol profiles.
Storage Instructions
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, keeping the therapeutic tablets inside their original bottle.
