Cardiosil 10mg (20 Tablet / Pack) contains Amlodipine (as Besylate), a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) engineered for the comprehensive treatment of essential hypertension, chronic stable angina, and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina. It functions by selectively inhibiting the transmembrane influx of extracellular calcium ions into cardiac muscle and vascular smooth muscle cells through L-type voltage-gated calcium channels, inducing profound peripheral arteriolar vasodilation to lower systemic blood pressure and decrease myocardial workload.

Purpose

Inhibits vascular smooth muscle L-type calcium channels to induce systematic vasodilation, decreasing peripheral resistance and myocardial oxygen demand.

Warnings

Do not abruptly discontinue taking this medication; rapid cessation can precipitate severe rebound hypertension or acute angina pectoris exacerbations. Monitor baseline blood pressure routinely; hold the daily dose and notify your healthcare provider immediately if symptomatic hypotension or severe dizziness manifests. Use with extreme caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, as the drug is extensively metabolized by the liver, prolonged clearance half-life. Instruct the patient to stand up slowly from sitting or lying down positions to entirely minimize the clinical risks of orthostatic lightheadedness.

Side Effects

Localized peripheral edema, specifically a harmless but prominent fluid swelling localized across the ankles, feet, or lower legs. Central nervous system adjustments including mild frontal headache, daytime sleepiness, somnolence, or temporary dizziness. Vascular variations such as transient facial flushing, a sudden localized sensation of warmth, or unprovoked heart palpitations. Low-grade gastrointestinal disturbances including mild morning nausea, self-limiting abdominal pain, or minor shifts in bowel habits.
