Mebeverine exerts a direct, non-anticholinergic spasmolytic effect on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, selectively blocking voltage-gated sodium channels and inhibiting intracellular calcium influx. This stabilization of the smooth muscle membrane prevents hypermotility and erratic intestinal spasms without interfering with normal physiological bowel peristalsis or autonomic functions.

Purpose

It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic irritable colon, spastic constipation, and secondary gastrointestinal spasms.
