Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate directly react with gastric hydrochloric acid to form calcium chloride, carbon dioxide, and water, rapidly increasing the intraluminal pH of the stomach. This chemical neutralization attenuates the proteolytic action of pepsin and coats the esophageal lining, providing immediate protective relief from acid-induced mucosal irritation.

Purpose

It is indicated for the rapid symptomatic relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, acute gastritis, hyperacidity, and stomach discomfort associated with sour stomach or flatulence.
