Erlina Plus Xr 25/5/1000mg (14 Tablet / Pack) is an extended-release combination oral hypoglycemic medication designed to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It combines two distinct active pharmaceutical ingredients that work by increasing urinary glucose excretion through SGLT2 inhibition and decreasing hepatic glucose production through a biguanide mechanism. This dual-action pathway significantly reduces both fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels when combined with proper diet and exercise.

Purpose

To improve glycemic control in adult type 2 diabetic patients as an adjunct therapy alongside structural dietary and exercise adjustments.

Warnings

Risk of lactic acidosis due to metformin accumulation which is a rare but serious metabolic emergency that requires immediate hospitalization. Can cause intravascular volume contraction leading to symptomatic hypotension particularly in elderly patients or individuals taking concurrent diuretics. Increases the clinical risk of ketoacidosis, a life-threatening systemic condition that may present with atypical or moderately elevated blood glucose levels. Monitor renal function parameters tightly before starting therapy and periodically thereafter as it is contraindicated in severe renal impairment.

Side Effects

Increased incidence of female genital mycotic infections and urinary tract infections due to glucose excretion. Gastrointestinal disturbances including diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and temporary loss of appetite. Symptoms of volume depletion such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or orthostatic hypotension upon standing up. Hypoglycemia when utilized in combination regimens with insulin or specific insulin secretagogues like sulfonylureas.
