Ferrous fumarate provides divalent iron ions necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin, myoglobin, and critical iron-dependent hepatic enzymes. Concurrently, folic acid is enzymatically converted into tetrahydrofolate, a vital co-factor required for purine and pyrimidine biosynthesis, which directly accelerates nuclear maturation and DNA synthesis during erythropoiesis.

Purpose

It is indicated for the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia, the prevention of concurrent folic acid deficiency, and as a routine daily prophylactic supplement during pregnancy and lactation.

Warnings

- Do not use this medication if you have a known history of iron overload disorders like hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis.\n- Avoid taking this supplement if you suffer from pernicious anemia or any other blood disorder caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency.\n- Consult your doctor before use if you are currently being treated for an active stomach ulcer or have had a portion of your stomach surgically removed.
