Gempid (600mg) (20 Tablet / Pack) is an oral fibric acid derivative antihyperlipidemic medication containing gemfibrozil, used for the comprehensive management of severe lipid disorders. It works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-alpha) transcription factors, which upregulates the expression of lipoprotein lipase and downregulates apolipoprotein C-III. This mechanism accelerates the clearance of very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), significantly lowers systemic triglyceride levels, and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol production.

Purpose

To treat severe hypertriglyceridemia and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in patients who fail to respond to dietary interventions.

Warnings

Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment, pre-existing gallbladder disease, or primary biliary cirrhosis. Avoid concurrent administration with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) due to a significantly increased risk of severe myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Perform regular baseline liver function tests and complete blood counts during prolonged therapy to monitor for adverse internal changes. Monitor prothrombin time closely in patients taking concurrent oral anticoagulants like warfarin, as gemfibrozil enhances their anticoagulant effect.

Side Effects

Gastrointestinal disruptions including dyspepsia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or flatulence. Dermatological developments such as mild skin rashes, pruritus, localized urticaria, or dry skin. Musculoskeletal symptoms including transient myalgia, muscle weakness, localized cramps, or arthralgia. Central nervous system reactions such as mild headaches, dizziness, somnolence, or temporary taste variations.
