Inhixa works as a potent anticoagulant by accelerating the activity of antithrombin III, a natural plasma protease inhibitor. The binding of heparin to antithrombin III induces a conformational change that dramatically speeds up its inhibition of activated coagulation factors, primarily Thrombin (Factor IIa) and Factor Xa. By neutralizing these key components of the coagulation cascade, the drug effectively prevents the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. This action inhibits the formation and propagation of stable blood clots, allowing the body's natural fibrinolytic mechanisms to break down existing thrombi without obstruction.

Purpose

It is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), acute coronary syndromes (such as unstable angina or myocardial infarction), and to prevent clot formation during extracorporeal circulation and hemodialysis.

Warnings

**Bleeding Risk:** Contraindicated in patients with active, uncontrollable bleeding, severe thrombocytopenia, or a history of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT). **Monitoring Requirements:** Requires strict clinical monitoring, including routine Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT) assessments, platelet counts, and hematocrit levels. **Administration Restriction:** For intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous (SC) use only; must never be administered via intramuscular (IM) injection due to the high risk of severe hematoma formation.

Side Effects

**Hematological:** Major or minor hemorrhage, bruising, and severe heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). **Local Reactions:** Pain, mild irritation, erythema, or localized skin necrosis at the injection site. **Systemic & Metabolic:** Elevated hepatic transaminases (ALT/AST), osteoporosis (with prolonged long-term use), and hyperkalemia due to aldosterone suppression.
