Jenprad 50mg Tablets contain Levosulpiride, a substituted benzamide structured to act as a selective antagonist of dopamine $D_2$ and $D_3$ receptors in both the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract. At a 50mg therapeutic dosage, it serves a dual clinical role: acting as a prokinetic agent to enhance gastric motility, accelerate stomach emptying, and alleviate severe dyspepsia, while also providing antipsychotic and mood-stabilizing effects for underlying depressive or anxiety states.

Purpose

Blocks central and peripheral dopamine D2/D3 receptors to enhance gastrointestinal smooth muscle contractions while stabilizing neurological pathways.

Warnings

Administer the tablet strictly 15 to 30 minutes before a main meal to ensure maximum bioavailability and optimal prokinetic function. Absolutely contraindicated in patients presenting with active gastrointestinal hemorrhages, mechanical obstructions, or perforations. Completely avoid prescribing to individuals with a clinical history of epilepsy, severe mania, or documented pheochromocytoma. Use with extreme caution as it can elevate serum prolactin levels, which may worsen hormone-dependent conditions like breast cancer.

Side Effects

Central nervous system effects including drowsiness, daytime sedation, or localized dizziness. Endocrine changes such as gynecomastia, galactorrhea, or marked irregularities in the female menstrual cycle. Extrapyramidal symptoms including mild physical restlessness, tremors, or transient muscle stiffness. Low-grade gastrointestinal disturbances including dry mouth, temporary constipation, or unexpected weight shifts.
