Metodine Df Syp (90ml) is an oral fixed-dose combination antimicrobial suspension containing diloxanide furoate and metronidazole, formulated for pediatric and adult intestinal infections. It operates via a dual-action therapeutic pathway: diloxanide furoate acts as a highly effective luminal amoebicide to destroy Entamoeba histolytica cysts within the intestinal lumen, while metronidazole acts systemically against vegetative trophozoites by disrupting microbial DNA replication. This combined mechanism thoroughly eradicates protozoal pathogens across both tissue and luminal spaces.

Purpose

To treat acute luminal and extra-luminal amoebiasis, intestinal giardiasis, and mixed susceptible anaerobic protozoal infections.

Ingredients

Diloxanide Furoate 250mg, Metronidazole 200mg / 5ml

Warnings

Shake the suspension thoroughly before each administration to guarantee uniform drug distribution and accurate dosage delivery. Completely avoid alcohol consumption or alcohol-infused products during therapy and for 48 hours post-treatment to prevent a disulfiram reaction. Administer with or immediately after food to significantly minimize gastrointestinal irritation and optimize patient compliance. Use with extreme caution in patients presenting with pre-existing hepatic impairment or active, severe neurological disorders.

Side Effects

Common gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, transient vomiting, abdominal cramping, loose stools, or flatulence. A persistent, bitter metallic taste in the mouth along with localized tongue coating or a temporary loss of appetite. Central nervous system reactions such as mild headaches, postural dizziness, lightheadedness, or occasional drowsiness. Harmless darkening or dark amber coloration of the urine caused by the physiological excretion of metronidazole metabolites.
