Minirin 0.1mg (30 Tablet / Pack) is a synthetic analogue of the natural pituitary hormone vasopressin containing desmopressin acetate, used to regulate water retention and urine production. It works as a selective agonist by binding to V2 receptors located in the basolateral membrane of the collecting ducts of the kidney, activating adenylate cyclase to insert aquaporin-2 water channels. This targeted action increases renal water reabsorption, concentrates urine, and reduces excessive fluid output caused by central diabetes insipidus or nocturnal enuresis.

Purpose

To treat central diabetes insipidus, manage primary nocturnal enuresis in pediatric patients, and control nocturia in adults.

Warnings

Fluid intake must be strictly limited to a minimum for 1 hour before and 8 hours after administration to prevent severe water intoxication. Contraindicated in patients with syndrome of inappropriate ADH segregation (SIADH), hyponatremia, or severe renal insufficiency. Monitor serum sodium levels regularly, especially in elderly or pediatric patients, to avoid life-threatening hyponatremic encephalopathy. Discontinue the treatment course during acute illnesses accompanied by fluid or electrolyte imbalances like vomiting or diarrhea.

Side Effects

Systemic signs of water retention and hyponatremia including severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Transient gastrointestinal symptoms such as mild abdominal cramps, bloating, or temporary loss of appetite. Central nervous system variations including mild somnolence, emotional lability, or localized taste alterations. Peripheral reactions including transient facial flushing, minor epistaxis, or mild cutaneous hypersensitivity.
