Samulin 70/30 100Iu/ml (10ml) is a premixed sterile suspension of human insulin combining intermediate-acting and fast-acting formulations to manage blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus. It works by binding to specific insulin receptors on muscle and adipose cells to facilitate cellular glucose uptake, while simultaneously inhibiting hepatic glucose output. The 70% isophane (NPH) component provides a prolonged basal insulin release, while the 30% regular soluble component handles rapid postprandial glucose shifts, mimicking physiological insulin patterns.

Purpose

To manage glycemic control in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus requiring a combination of basal and bolus insulin.

Warnings

Administer strictly via subcutaneous injection into the thigh, upper arm, or abdominal wall; never administer via intravenous or intramuscular routes. Roll the vial gently between the palms before drawing the dose to ensure the insulin suspension is uniformly resuspended without foaming. Continually rotate injection sites within the chosen anatomical region to avoid the development of lipodystrophy or localized tissue damage. Monitor blood glucose levels regularly to avoid severe hypoglycemia, particularly when changing diet, exercise, or concurrent medications.

Side Effects

Hypoglycemia manifesting with symptoms such as cold sweats, palpitations, tremors, anxiety, confusion, or severe dizziness. Localized lipodystrophy or lipohypertrophy at the site of repeated subcutaneous injections. Injection site reactions including mild transient erythema, localized swelling, or minor cutaneous itching. Systemic allergic reactions or localized edema due to insulin-induced sodium retention in rare profiles.
