Viglip M (50/850mg) (28 Tablet / Pack) is a fixed-dose combination oral antihyperglycemic medication designed for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works through two complementary mechanisms: vildagliptin acts as a selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor to extend the activity of incretin hormones, enhancing insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon, while metformin HCl acts as a biguanide to reduce hepatic gluconeogenesis and increase peripheral insulin sensitivity. This synergistic dual action effectively lowers both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.

Purpose

To improve glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise lifestyle modifications.

Vildagliptin 50mg, Metformin HCl 850mg

Warnings

Risk of lactic acidosis due to metformin accumulation; strictly avoid use in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR less than 30ml/min). Discontinue therapy temporarily prior to and for 48 hours after undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing iodinated contrast media. Monitor liver function tests before starting treatment and periodically thereafter due to the risk of vildagliptin-induced hepatic dysfunction. Avoid excessive alcohol intake during treatment as it can increase the risk of metformin-induced hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.

Side Effects

Gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, or temporary loss of appetite. Central nervous system effects such as transient headaches, dizziness, mild tremors, or a physical feeling of fatigue. Long-term metabolic risks including decreased vitamin B12 absorption, leading to megaloblastic anemia with prolonged usage. Cutaneous developments including mild skin rashes, localized pruritus, hyperhidrosis, or minor joint pain.
